This January we are launching ‘waterlootea monthly’. Fresh, delicious tea delivered to your door every month. An excellent way to try different teas and to also stock up your tea cabinet. As our commitment to you we will always send you teas that we are proud of and that we feel represent what we do best. Also, you will be the first to try new arrivals, fresh from the farms.

Our normal trading hours are 7 days a week, 8am-6pm, with the occasional evening event.

We open all Bank Holidays. The only other day we close is Easter Sunday.

If you are a bit last minute, then have no fear. You can order up until 3.00pm on Friday 23rd December and you will receive your goods on the Saturday (Christmas Eve). The Royal Mail does charge a premium for this. However, the more you spend, the less we will charge for postage as we will take some of the hit for you.

Will Corby (aka The Caffeine Kid and now a Coffee Hunter employed byMercanta) will be leading classes in Coffee Tasting & Barista Skills. Winner of the 2010 Northern Heat and 2011 London Heat of the UK Barista Championships, Will is one of the foremost figures in the coffee world today.

Coffee Cupping Course:

Tasting coffee in its most natural form as the professionals do; you will be guided through cupping protocol and tasting procedures. We will taste 8 coffees of different varietals and farms including some of the worlds most sought after beans.

6.00pm

Barista Skills

This course will cover all elements of espresso machine use from how to adjust your grinder, tamping technique, pulling top espresso, milk preparation and espresso machine maintenance. It will leave you heading for home packed with enthusiasm for producing great tasting drinks!

All courses are priced at £40 or £75 for both courses. Light food is included.  Spaces are limited.  Alternatively you can book online.

As always, to celebrate our monthly change over of artists, we will be having a launch evening where you get a chance to speak with the artist and mingle with like minded folk. Not stuffy affairs, no airs and graces, we will treat you as our guests on these evenings, with buffet and drinks laid on. Remember, 20% of the sales go to the artists charity of choice.

This month we are so proud to have Maggie James showing her work at the teahouse. Maggie is involved in the running of BayArt gallery in Cardiff Bay. A local resident, we have been after her for a while! Her stuff is pretty awesome, exuding quality. The prices are surprising for such good work, and when we first saw them we thought they could have easily been double what they are up for (seriously).

Following the success of Henry Olonga and Scyld Berry’s recent visits to Cardiff, we are delighted to invite you to the next In the Zone Sport and Politics event, featuring Wales rugby star Michael Owen. It will be held on Tuesday September 20th.

To coincide with this year’s Rugby World Cup, Michael will be launching, and reading from, his autobiography My Story. During an illustrious career that peaked with the captaincy of the Grand Slam-winning Wales rugby team in 2005, Michael was the 1000^th player to be capped by Wales and also had the honour of captaining the British and Irish Lions in 2005. He is now a well-respected coach, working with both rugby clubs and schools, and is often seen providing expert analysis for Sky, ESPN and BBC Wales.

If you’re able to come, please let me know, as it will be helpful to have an idea of numbers. Please also note the time of this event – Michael will be speaking at 5pm, so do try to arrive in good time.
