Jade Cloud, Organic and Fair-Trade
Organic Fair Trade Green Tea Jade Cloud is a special grade of Chinese green tea produced in the high elevation tea gardens of western Hubei, China. Each year, our Jade Cloud is carefully selected from the farmers’ earliest batches of spring tea. Organic Jade Cloud has a mellow and refreshing character that is smooth with low astringency. Jade Cloud’s aroma suggests sweetly toasted chestnut and bluegrass.
Dragon Well, Organic
Our Dragon Well is mellow and smooth with a fresh finish and roasted chestnut aroma. Dragon Well (Long Jing) is the most famous Chinese green tea, named after the Dragon’s Well landmark in the West lake area of the Zhejiang, where the tea originated. Dragon Well is a pan-fired green tea that is flat fried by hand in large woks. It is performed one small batch at a time according to an artisan processing technique that yields a tea with leaves shaped like the blade of a sword.
Ancient Emerald Lily, Organic and Fair-Trade
A beautiful tea to look at and to taste. Emerald Lily has a brisk, fresh flavour that is well balanced with aromatic notes of wildflowers and toasted pine nuts. This unique green tea is hand harvested especially from Yunnan’s old growth forest tea trees. Green tea from Yunnan’s old growth trees contains a higher content of polyphenols and natural tea antioxidants than other green teas.
Orange Blossom, Organic and Fair-Trade
Orange Blossom is a refreshing and floral blend of green teas with sweetly-scented blossoms, lemongrass and tropical citrus fruits.
Jasmine Green, Organic and Fair-Trade
Organic green tea blended with fresh jasmine blossoms by a traditional tea scenting process. The green tea absorbs the natural essence from fresh jasmine blossoms and imparts a sweet and soothing fragrance in every cup.
Jasmine Pearl, Organic
The most tender green tealeaves and silvery down-covered buds are hand rolled into small pearls and naturally scented with the essence of fresh jasmine blossoms. The fragrant blossoms are mixed with a reserve Dragon Pearl several times until it becomes infused with the sweet flavour and heady aroma of real jasmine. More than 10 kilos of fresh jasmine flowers are used to scent each kilo of dried Dragon Pearl green tea.
Genmai Matcha
This is our luxurious rendition of genmaicha, the original blend of roasted rice and tealeaves. A hand blended special varietal of deep-steamed sencha from Kagoshima with roasted sticky rice, creating a smooth body and sweet flavour. Then add stone-milled matcha from Kyoto and sweet roasted rice powder to produce an extra creamy cup with a vivid green infusion and smooth, roasted flavour.
Matcha Latte
Surprisingly sweet, slightly grassy and almost tangibly nourishing. Matcha is the powdered bright green tea traditionally used in the Japanese tea ceremony. Made from leaves with the highest concentration of caffeine of any plant, this verdant brew gives a real buzz while remaining miraculously healthy. Used by Zen Buddhist monks to stay awake for meditation weeks, and by Japanese students cramming for exams, it is now spreading to the West mainly in the form of the matcha latte. Its concentrated power comes from the way it is grown. Matcha is made of the tips of budding tea-bushes that have been shaded with bamboo mats for three weeks of spring growth. This keeps the caffeine content high and preserves the chlorophyll (since the sunless leaves cannot undergo photosynthesis). The leaves are stone-ground to an ultra-fine powder and kept in the fridge. A further part of matcha’s kick is that you ingest the whole, ground-up tea rather than drinking a steeped brew poured off the leaves. The amino acid l-theanine, prominent in green tea and sold as a stress treatment in Japan, is one reason tea-caffeine has a different physiological effect than coffee-caffeine. It tends to give drinkers a calm energy rather than a jittery restlessness.
Sencha, Organic
This is the most beloved tea of Japan. Developed in the 18th century, the process of making Sencha has evolved into the art and science of preserving the fresh green character and healthy components of tealeaves. Our Sencha is organically cultivated in Kagoshima, Japan, where the beneficial climate, rich volcanic soil and abundant hot springs give the tea a deep juicy flavour.
